Picking Life Fully - by Ann Ornie

Carefully and with good intent

one searches for the sweetest berry.

Between thick stemmed brambles

the purveyor moves,

avoiding thorns.

Hopeful of the reward.

The hat full of berries,

hangs heavy

with the weight of your

effort.

  The effort being part of

  the reward.

There is a great thankfulness

that this is my last memory

  of you.

One I hope to share with

  your family.

That even alone — when no one

  who knew you were sick

  was watching,

you still picked life fully

with the simplest of past times.

Rest well.
